Most of the team's racing experience is in North America, but on occasion, we have had the opportunity to compete in venues around the world. American Solar Challenge
The American Solar Challenge is a cross-country race that tests the long-range endurance of its entrants. The 2001 and 2003 routes followed old Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. China Solar Challenge
| During the summer of 2002, the Missouri S&T Solar Car Team had the honor of being invited to China for a solar technology exhibition sponsored by Electronic Data Systems (EDS). Along with the solar car team from Principia College in Elsah, IL, and a Chinese team from Tsinghua University in Bejing, our team toured Shanghai, Nanjing, Tianjin, and Beijing and helped expose the people of China to the world of renewable energy. |
Formula Sun Grand Prix
The Formula Sun Grand Prix is a track race held each May at Heartland Park Raceway - Race Track in Topeka Kansas. The race is three days long, each day consisting of approximately nine hours of race time. The winner of the race is determined by the team that accumulates the most mileage during the three day period. Solar BikeRayce USA
This is an annual track competition held at Crowder College in Neosho, MO on a weekend in the middle of may. There are several classes of competitors, both based on age and the type of vehicle. World Solar Challenge
| Australia's World Solar Challenge in Australia is the most well
known of the solar car races. It consists of a 3000km long trek
from Darwin to Adelaide through the middle of the Australian Outback.
The Missouri S&T team has competed in this event twice, once with the Sunrayce
99 champion Solar Miner II, which placed 22nd overall, and again
with Solar Miner III, which placed 4th.
