Article I: Committees

Committees shall be appointed by the President. The President shall be an ex officio member of all committees and all other meetings outside of the general Team meetings.

Article II: Team Meetings

Section A: Quorum

A quorum for the official transaction of business shall be one-half (1/2) of the total active membership.

Section B: Frequency of Meetings

General Team business shall be held at least once every four weeks, to be determined by the President, during the academic year and shall be scheduled upon the same day of the week so far as it is practicable. Special Team meetings may be called by the President at any time. The team may also vote by simple majority to hold additional meetings. At least a 24 hours notice of all meetings shall be given.

Article III: Officers and Offices

Section A: Qualifications of an Officer

Each active Team member is eligible for nominations to a Team office, provided that the member is: (1) at least a sophomore, (2) has been a member of the Team for at least one academic semester preceding that member's nomination, and (3) not on any kind of probation, academic or otherwise.

Section B: Filling of Offices during Temporary Absence

A temporary absence is any absence of an officer not to exceed one month. If an officer is going to be temporarily absent, the Constitution shall dictate the means of appointing an interim replacement.

Section C: Filling of Offices during Summer Semester

If a newly elected officer cannot take office during the summer semester, the Constitution shall dictate the means of appointing an interim replacement.

Article IV: Membership

A member that is deemed unproductive, disruptive, or detrimental to the image of the Team may be excluded from the membership by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of the active members. Before the vote is to be carried out, said member shall be given an opportunity to present a defense before the Team. If the vote to exclude is successful, the member will be immediately expelled from the Team. The member shall forever be barred from the Team, unless three-fourths (3/4) of the total active membership allows reinstatement.

Article V: Amendments

These by-laws may be amended at any general Team meeting by approval of one-half (1/2) of the total active membership, provided the amendment shall have been proposed at least one meeting prior to the time of voting. The Student Affairs and the Academic Council or their designated representative must approve all amendments.

Article VI: Voting

Alternative means of voting may be approved by a simple majority vote of the active members at a general Team meeting.

Article VII: Team Summer Status

Section A: All members of the race crew and officer core shall be considered active members as specified in Article IV, Section A of the Team constitution. Non-race crew members may be added to the team roster for the summer term if an appeal from the potential member is submitted to and approved by a majority vote of the officer core. In the event of a tie the President may cast the deciding vote.

Section B: Payment of dues is not required for the summer semester.

Section C: Summer membership shall be terminated at the beginning of the following fall semester.

Section D: The director position of Race Crew Team Leader shall be appointed by the President per the recommendation of the race crew selection committee as described in Article V, Section C of the Team’s constitution. The responsibilities of this position shall be to oversee the action of the race crew for the summer term.

Section E: The race crew shall hold weekly meetings during the summer until the conclusion of the final race of the summer. Said meetings shall be organized and run by the Race Crew Team Leader.

Section F: The Team’s constitution shall not be changed over the summer term.

Article VIII: Membership Account Withdrawal

The Team account funded by collected membership dues shall hereby be referred to as the “Membership Account”. Potential allocations of those funds shall be made known by way of motion at a general Team meeting during regular academic semesters or at a race crew meeting held over the summer. The motion must then be seconded and discussed. Funds from the Membership Account shall be allocated by a majority vote of active members present at the meeting.
